Cannot boot Mac Mini with striped RAID 0 set. Ask Question Asked 6 years, 1 month ago. Fast SDHC cards are getting so inexpensive that I pretty much make one of those for every Mac Mini so it has a recovery OS to boot from for maintenance like this. Of course a USB drive works well too. I’m very interested in purchasing the MAXPower RAID mini-SAS 6G-1e1i for my 2008 Mac Pro 3.1, and I am a bit confused by the fact that the article states that the card won’t boot as the main page with the details of the card on OWC’s website doesn’t mention this at all. Nov 21, 2019  Boot Camp does not install Microsoft Windows on RAID volumes. Windows on your Mac does not recognize RAID volumes, including volumes provided by a RAID card. Apr 22, 2009  After days of searching and failing on different ideas on how to get boot camp to work with OS Xs' SW RAID, I finally did it. This is how I did it and I've read other ways to do it, but this is the only one that worked for me. Just thought I would share for anyone who was interested.

  • already tried * different block sizes like 32k - 256k
  • ssd drives are both Sandisk 256 gb Ultra Plus

- are you suggesting that if I transfer the boot partition to a faster drive before transfering to the ssd raid?

the plan is to switch from one 256gb ssd to two 256gb ssd drives in raid 0. the 2 ssd drives have previously been used as boot drives in the 2011 mac mini & early 2011 15' MBP

RAID 0 stripes the data across the two devices. By design the I/O to the devices and the devices them selves need to be Matched as there is no way to buffer the write or the read if one device is slower or if the I/O to the device is slower in a RAID 0 setup. In this case the I/O path is not the same here as you are using the slower optical drives SATA connection. Other versions of the mini offer dual SATA ports that are the same speed and offer RAID 0 as an option (server models).

How to start up in macOS from Windows
